About
I give objects that people covet a new lease on life.
Natacha Birds is a French painter and ceramic artist. Her work straddles the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and object art, in a world where the everyday, the personal, and the imaginary converge.
Through ceramics, she recreates and transforms familiar objects (shoes, bags, jewelry, household items) into sculptural forms. Stripped of their original function, these objects take on a strange, fragile, or sometimes slightly absurd quality: an item one might wear becomes a sculpture, an accessory becomes a vase, and a shoe becomes a candleholder.
Painting and ceramics function as two extensions of the same artistic language. Flowers, butterflies, colors, and shapes move from the canvas to the object, as if certain images had left the surface of the painting to take shape in the material.
His work draws inspiration from the objects around us, everyday gestures, nature, memory, and the intimate. It is characterized by a quest for gentleness and a particular attention to ordinary things. Faith also appears in his work—sometimes explicitly, sometimes simply in the way he approaches the act of creation, time, and materials.
What if ordinary things weren't really that ordinary after all?
